My business partners and I run Modern Tribe, an agency that coordinates 25-40+ distributed independent contractors on projects for some of the world largest brands. I lead teams in UX, UI, Web + Mobile Design & WordPress.
I am an active freelance evangelist and the founder of FreelanceCamp, which has now run over 17 events worldwide with more to come.
Along with speaking, I have published numerous articles for freelance publications like Mashable, CopyBlogger, FreelanceSwitch, eLance, and many more. I write about the business of independent contracting (including sales, finances and managing people & projects) and the future of work.
I am heavily involved in social good projects, focusing on helping local government run efficiently and transparently with financial responsibility. One of our projects won the Government 2.0 award in 2009. In 2011, with some pretty awesome volunteers we helped draft and win a code for america project for Santa Cruz, passed 3 new laws facilitating open data, systems interoperability and broadband investment for the city. Who says one geek can’t make a difference?
As of March, 2009 I am a papa and couldn’t be more thrilled. My daughter Serenity is a constant bringer of adventure. When I can sneak away, I surf some of the best waves in the world courtesy of living in Santa Cruz, CA.
